Humaning Is Hard: April 2024 News

Me at High Point Market with two watercolor paintings from my new collection, Blue Ridge Mountain Magic.

“Golden Hour” highlights my favorite time of day in the mountains when the late afternoon sun shines just right, creating a magical glow.

“Day Turns To Night“ - Another nod to my favorite time of day and a haiku I wrote to accompany this mixed media piece. It also speaks to the one truth in life - change is the only constant.

Three Jollities

Each month, I will share three jollities in my newsletter.

  1. Something new that I'm excited about.

  2. A creative challenge I'm tackling.

  3. A little tidbit that inspires me and may spark some light in you as well.

Let's go!

Jollity #1: Something I Am Excited To Share

I am a member of the Associated Artists of Winston-Salem, which is an amazing organization. Through this community, I connect with local artists, workshops, gallery display opportunities, and more. But they really outdid themselves this time (shout out to Susan Power, AAWS President) by partnering with Oliver Home Furnishings to showcase local artists during the Spring Furniture Market in High Point, NC

I created a new watercolor series called "Blue Ridge Mountain Magic" for this opportunity and was unbelievably honored that four of the six pieces I submitted were selected! I was lucky enough to visit and hang my art yesterday and see all of the other amazing pieces from local NC-Triad artists hanging on the wall.

Here is a video that showcases the beautiful art that is now filling the space. The lighting will be adjusted to showcase the art and furniture as the market approaches, but this gives you a great idea!

Jollity #2: A Challenge I Am Tackling

LIFE. That is the challenge I am tackling today and always. This past year has really tested me in every possible way. My Mother-in-Law passed away unexpectedly, my Brother-in-Law moved in with us that night, and we have been trying to figure out this new way of life for the past 8 months. Some days go smoothly, and others feel like I cannot make it through. But we are trying our best to go through it with our eyes and hearts wide open. After all, the only way to really move forward is through.

So, for all of those out there struggling with living this life, I see you, and I have compassion for all you are going through in trying to human in these crazy times.

Take care of yourself. I am so very grateful to have an art retreat planned this coming weekend with Jana Clinnard Harris and 18 other lovely artistic women, and I cannot wait!

Jollity #3: An Inspiring Tidbit

My favorite podcast by a LONG shot is "We Can Do Hard Things" with Glennon Doyle, her wife Abby Wambach, and her sister Amanda Doyle. They are very close to my age and are just amazing, authentic humans.

But then, Alok joined them, and the whole world sang!

Listen to this episode - it will open your worldview in so many ways. You can thank me later ;)

Wishing you all the hope and promise of Spring,
