Recreating History
Behind The Walls
Here’s the original wallpaper that I used as a reference to recreate the artwork.
I recently worked on my dream project!
I was challenged to recreate a historic wallpaper in a Washington, DC, row house that was found behind the walls during restoration. And I was totally up for it.
How It Happened
Back in November, I was sitting in my friend Sadie Cornelius of SKC Marketing’s house in DC when a text came if from her friend Heather Bien saying that she was looking for an artist to recreate a historic wallpaper design that they had found behind the walls of a row house basement they were looking to recreate for their home renovation.
She planned to rent the basement apartment out as an Airbnb. As a talented home decorator, Heather wanted to create a very special experience for guests to stay comfortably and conveniently in the Capital Hill neighborhood while also feeling the location's history.
Once I saw the photos of the old, dilapidated wallpaper, I was nervous but also felt excited and confident that I could do it! So Heather, Sadie, and I made a plan for me to work on it once I got back home and touch base during the process to ensure the colors and design were just right.
In the end, Sadie and I worked together to create the proper repeat pattern (which is much more complicated than I expected!) and digitize the design. Once uploaded, Heather ordered the wallpaper and proceeded to hang it once it arrived. It is now hanging in all its splendor in her Airbnb, which is now available to rent via Airbnb in Washington, DC!

Want To See The Listings?!?
If you want to check it out in more detail, here are the links for the Airbnb listing and the wallpaper and home decor items with the same design available on Spoonflower. We are planning to order sheets with the design for our bedroom!
Combining my love for history, real estate, home restoration, and painting was a dream! Thank you Heather and Sadie for trusting me with this inspiring project.
Do You Have A Custom Art Project?
I recently did a beautiful commissioned piece for a collector like you! It was specifically designed to fit with their home decor, values, and the special meaning of herons in their lives.
"We ADORE it! Your heron is a symbol of light and love to us. We couldn't be happier." - Karen
If you have a project you’ve been wanting to tackle that involves commissioned art, don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to help your dreams come true as well.
